Coursework

Core Data Science and Analytics (DSA) courses (6 credit hours) will be taught by DSA faculty.

Core DSA courses are:

  • DATASCI 7010: Introduction to Data Analytics
  • DATASCI 8010: Data Analytics from Applied Machine Learning

The remaining Materials DSA certificate hours will focus on materials emphasis areas. Courses include:

  • Materials Analytics—This course will cover types of data obtained from materials creation and characterization, the equipment used to measure those properties and how to analyze resulting data.
  • Materials Insight from Data—This course will evaluate materials databases to gain physical insights into material behaviors.

Path to Graduation

  • Apply
  • Year 1: Establish research advisor and committee; develop individual development plan; begin core classes; begin research project
  • Years 2-3: Data Science graduate certificate; creativity training; present at conference; participate in outreach; participate in internship; participate in Café Hours
  • Years 4-5: Café Hours mentor; career preparation; defend dissertation
